Where the three go

Road signs, as everywhere, and particularly the regulatory and lane-control sets that learners study less than the warning signs.

Give way rules at intersections and roundabouts, which in New Zealand carry their own specifics — the give way rules were changed in 2012 and older advice from family members can be actively wrong.

Speed limits and following distances, including the two-second rule and its wet-weather extension, which are precise numbers rather than general principles.

And the graduated licensing conditions themselves: what a learner licence holder may do, supervision requirements, and the zero alcohol limit for drivers under 20. Assumed knowledge, frequently wrong.

Preparing for a paper with no margin

Practise to 34 or 35 out of 35, not 32. When only three errors are allowed, a practice score at the pass line means you are relying on which questions appear.

Track every miss by category and close each one before booking. At this pass mark there is no such thing as an acceptable weak area.

Sit full 35-question mocks rather than short quizzes, and do several. Consistency matters more here than a single good run, because a 91% threshold punishes variance.
