Every Canadian province starts new drivers with a written knowledge test. Ontario's G1 test has 40 questions in two sections — rules of the road and road signs — and you need 80% to pass. British Columbia's ICBC knowledge test asks 25 questions, and Alberta's Class 7 learner exam covers 30. All are based on the official handbooks: the MTO Driver's Handbook, ICBC's Learn to Drive Smart, and Alberta's Basic Licence Driver's Handbook.

How many questions are on the Ontario G1 test?
The G1 knowledge test has 40 multiple-choice questions: 20 on rules of the road and 20 on road signs. You must score 16/20 on each section — 80% overall — to pass.
What is the pass mark for the ICBC knowledge test?
BC's ICBC knowledge test asks 25 questions and requires 20 correct answers (80%). Our BC mock exams use the same format and pass mark.
