How soon you can try again

What the retest costs
The retest fee is ₹50. The ₹150 licence issue component of the original ₹200 is not charged again for a retest of the same application.
Compared with almost anywhere else, this is negligible. A UK theory resit is £23, an Australian DKT retake is AUD $58, and Ireland charges €45. India charges the price of a bus fare.
The real cost of failing is the trip to the RTO and the wait for a slot, not the fee. Preparation is worth doing to save the morning, not the money.
Why the second attempt often goes the same way
The question set changes. The RTO draws from a bank considerably larger than the 20 questions you see, so reviewing the specific items you remember missing achieves very little — the same rule returns in a different sentence.
On a 20-question paper this matters more than it does elsewhere. There is no room to absorb a repeated blind spot: if signs cost you four marks last time, signs will cost you four marks again unless you actually learned them.
Fixing the category rather than the question is the whole difference between a pass and a repeat.
What to do before rebooking
Write down which of the three blocks cost you marks — signs, right of way, or documentation and penalties. Be honest about guesses that happened to land, because those are the gaps that will surface next time.
Spend an hour on signs specifically. Mandatory versus cautionary versus informatory, by shape and colour, until the category is instant. This block is the largest on the paper and the most purely memorisable.
Sit three full 20-question mocks and clear 16 or better on each. Passing at exactly 12 in practice means you will fail under exam conditions.
Only then rebook on Sarathi. An hour of preparation costs less than a second trip to the RTO.
